Formed in 1988, Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity is the local Habitat affiliate for Winnebago County, Illinois.

Habitat is dedicated to building homes, neighborhoods, and lives through improved housing opportunity. We build simple, decent, affordable homes to be sold to families currently living in substandard housing.
Rockford Habitat is for families who are ready to make a life-changing commitment to become homeowners. Families are selected on the basis of need for adequate housing, ability to make mortgage payments, and willingness to become partners in the program.

Our Mission
We help households achieve strength, stability, and opportunity by fortifying the place they call home. We do this through the construction and affordable sale of safe homes for new homeowners; through critical home preservation efforts for existing homeowners; and through the broad advocacy that supports housing solutions for all.

Who We Are
Our organization was founded as a volunteer-run housing developer that completed and sold its first home in 1990.
We created a loan-product that would require a very minimal down payment and would bear no interest to increase buying power for households on a limited income.
