Staff Highlight: Monique

Meet Monique, our Volunteer Manager! She started at Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity in July 2022.

Monique says that when she’s asked about her role, she describes it as all things volunteer. She’s responsible for volunteer services on the construction site, at the Restore, and in the office.

Here is our Q&A with Monique:

What do you love about Habitat?

I love how unique it is. You probably won’t find another organization that is providing families with access to homeownership and independence in such a unique and sustainable way. I also love how dedicated our volunteers are. We have volunteers who have been with us since the beginning of Rockford Habitat!

What is one of your favorite moments/memories of working with Habitat?

My favorite moment was getting a phone call from a local mother, who asked if her school-aged son could make and donate lunches to our construction volunteers. It was perfect timing because we didn’t have lunch that weekend. Moments like that remind you of our mission and give you a chance to meet some great people in our community.

What makes you passionate about your work?

Making an impact. Volunteerism and community are incredibly important to me. I’ve been volunteering since I was a child. Knowing that the few hours a week you give can make somebody’s dreams come true is inspirational. It shows what a community is and what it means to be a volunteer.

What is one fun or surprising fact about you?

I originally started college to be an art teacher!

When you’re not serving with RAHFH, what are you up to? What do you do for fun?

I like to spend time reading and playing games with my 2-year-old daughter, Mila.

We are so appreciative of all that Monique does. Volunteers are truly the backbone of Habitat. Their hard work and dedication ultimately sustain the work that we do.
