Staff Spotlight: Laura

Meet Laura, the Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity Office Manager! Laura has worked at RAHFH since 2017. Before that, she worked directly with RAHFH homebuyers for 13 years as a Certified Housing and Credit Counselor.

Laura keeps everything on track in the office, from office operations, insurance paperwork, and all of our databases, to administrative duties and accounts payable and receivable. She also works with the Affiliate and ReStore staff teams to make sure they are equipped with everything they need to flourish. Needless to say, Laura is a huge asset to RAHFH! We hope you enjoy getting to know a little more about who Laura is and why she loves Habitat through this Q&A.

Q: What is one fun or surprising fact about you?

A: Fun fact, I love Halloween! It is definitely not a surprise if you know me. It is a fun time of year, I love the aesthetics of Halloween and fall weather is my favorite!

Q: When you’re not serving with HFH, what are you up to? What do you do for fun?

A: I am a newlywed! I recently was married in October of 2020. Because of the pandemic we had to postpone our reception, so when I am at home, I am working on planning for the big day. I am also on the committee and volunteer for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Rockford Out of Darkness Walk, I bowl on a local bowling league, and I play bags on a league in the summer. I enjoy drawing and hand lettering, and spending time with my family and friends.

Q: What do you love about Habitat?

A: When I worked as a Housing Counselor, I fell in love with the process of home buying through Habitat for Humanity. I was able to get to know the homebuyers throughout the beginning stages of their partnership and formed good relationships with them. I was able to celebrate with them as they went through the program and purchase their first home. Seeing someone accomplish a life goal is something I will always cherish. For some people, purchasing their first home is a goal they thought they would never reach. Habitat for Humanity makes it an attainable goal and there is no better feeling than seeing a family obtain their goals.

Q: What is one of your favorite moments or memories of working with Habitat?

A: Home dedications are always my favorite memories. I remember every single one of our homebuyers’ dedications. They are a special time that we get to share with them. Seeing their families come together to celebrate their huge accomplishment is a memory I will never forget.

Q: What makes you passionate about your work?

A: I look forward to coming to work every day. I know that by being here I am helping our staff complete their work, which in turn allows the company to grow. The goal is to help as many families as possible and I feel that I am a small piece of the puzzle that allows us to accomplish it.

Laura’s passion for Habitat’s mission, dedication to her work, and ability to keep the entire organization functioning smoothly ultimately help Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity thrive—our entire team is very thankful for her.
