Each day, we highlighted a different segment of our volunteer family, sharing their stories and contributions, which are vital to our mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ReStore True Blues & Volunteers<\/strong><br>We kicked off the week by honoring our ReStore True Blues and other volunteers who consistently help keep our store running. From managing the lighting department to recycling metals and repairing items, these volunteers are the gears that drive the ReStore’s success. Their dedication enables us not only to raise funds efficiently but also to promote sustainability and community welfare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Office Volunteers<\/strong><br>Our office volunteers, though few, play a crucial role. They bolster our accounting department, handling everything from paperwork to financial transactions, ensuring that our operations remain transparent and on track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Board of Directors<\/strong><br>Midweek, our focus turned to our Board of Directors, whose strategic guidance and decision-making capacity are fundamental. These leaders volunteer their time to set our organizational course, ensuring we remain a beacon of hope in the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Weekday Wonders & Construction Volunteers<\/strong><br>The Weekday Wonders, a key focus of our celebrations, dedicate 20-30 hours weekly during the build season, moving our construction projects forward. Alongside them, countless other construction volunteers contribute their skills across our building sites, turning blueprints into homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Committee Members & Professional Service Volunteers<\/strong><br>Our Committee Members and Professional Service Volunteers handle everything from event planning to the technical specifics of blueprints and loan closures. Their expertise across various fields helps streamline our processes, making our efforts more effective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The week culminated in our annual Kick-off Dinner, celebrating both our homebuyers and volunteers, particularly our Weekday Wonders. This event not only marks the start of the build season but also strengthens the community bonds that are so crucial to our mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each group\u2019s unique contributions illustrate the collective power of volunteerism and how it sustains and enriches our efforts to build homes and hope. As we reflect on this National Volunteer Week, we are reminded of the strength that lies in unity and the incredible impact of those who give their time, skills, and heart to help others. To all our volunteers, we say thank you. See you there! <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">HOUSING JUSTICE SYMPOSIUM EVENT April 10, 2024<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns are-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:50%\">\n<p>On <strong>Wednesday, April 10<\/strong>, distinguished authors <strong>Richard Rothstein<\/strong> (<em>The Color of Law)<\/em> and daughter <strong>Leah Rothstein<\/strong> (<em>Just Action)<\/em> presented a 45-minute lecture followed by Q&A focused on <strong>addressing residential segregation in our community<\/strong>. The Rothsteins\u2019 lecture was centered around their latest co-authored book, <em>Just Action, <\/em>which describes how we can begin to address segregation in our community, providing dozens of strategies local groups can pursue for racial housing justice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This event was co-hosted by Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity and Rock Valley College as well as a collective of planning partners. It was made possible thanks to a generous Healing Illinois Grant through the Field Foundation and Illinois Department of Human Services.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are overjoyed with the amount of people who came to hear Richard Rothstein and Leah Rothstein speak and are so excited about the possibilities for the future of Rockford.
