ABOUT OUR APPLICATION PROCESS

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity, Inc. is a nonprofit housing organization, which builds simple, decent homes in partnership with families in the Rockford area.  The basic guidelines for family selection include:

  1. A need for adequate shelter
  2. Willingness to partner with Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity and complete 300 hours of work on your home
  3. Ability to make monthly mortgage payment:  Habitat for Humanity sells homes to carefully selected families under an interest-free mortgage, so your family must meet our financial criteria.
  4. You must be a resident of Winnebago County for 1 year in order to apply.

WHERE TO APPLY

Important Information:

You must attend one of the following Application Seminars in order to complete your application. Please arrange for childcare and do not be late.

Saturday, July 20th at Rockford Memorial Hospital, 2400 N. Rockton Ave, Rockford, IL 61103.

The seminar will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. and will conclude by noon.

Wednesday, July 24th at Ken-Rock Community Center, 3218 11th St #1, Rockford, IL 61109.

The seminar will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. and will conclude by 9:00 p.m. 

Saturday, July 27th at Ken-Rock Community Center, 3218 11th St #1, Rockford, IL 61109.

The seminar will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. and will conclude by noon.

WHAT TO BRING

Copies of the following documents must be submitted with your family’s application on the day of Application Seminar.  We will keep the copies you bring us with your file, so do not bring originals.  Copying service will not be available at the time of the seminar.

  • Copy of your valid, current driver’s license, or photo identification card.
  • Copies of federal tax returns for the past 2 years, including W-2s;
  • Copies of the most recent pay stubs covering a 1-month period;
  • Copies of the last 2 bank statements;
  • Copy of your children’s birth certificates, or proof of guardianship of children who will be living in the home;
  • Copy of proof of receipt of any other income (i.e., child support, social security, disability income, etc.)
  • Your calendar, we need to know what days and times work for you for a site visit in case you are chosen

Applications will not be reviewed until all required paperwork is provided, so please bring copies of all documents with you to the Application Seminar.
