What We Build

20170621_084649-576x1024Habitat houses around the world are built according to the same 3 guiding principles:

  • Simple: Habitat houses are modestly-sized. They are large enough for the homeowner family’s needs but small enough to keep construction and maintenance costs to a minimum.
  • Decent: Habitat for Humanity uses quality, locally-available building materials. Habitat house designs reflect the local climate and culture.
  • Affordable: The labor of volunteers and partner families, efficient building methods, modest house sizes and no-profit loans make it affordable for low-income families to purchase Habitat houses.
We don’t just build houses, we build community.

Our vision doesn’t end at the construction of houses. We strive to be a catalyst for change for both our homeowners and the communities they live in.

Beverly Park, located in Northwest Rockford, features over 70 of the homes built by RAHFH. Prior to Habitat’s involvement, the streets were scarred with abandoned, decaying houses that drained the spirit of a neighborhood wanting desperately to succeed. One house at a time, we’re invigorating a community by investing not only in the construction of new homes but in the homeowners themselves. Our goal isn’t to just provide affordable, decent homes; it’s to bring a sense of pride to a community and lay the foundations for brighter futures.

Currently, we are building in the Brandon Place subdivision near Sandy Hollow Golf Course and will continue building in that subdivision over the next several years.

Habitat Houses in Rockford Area
Traditionally, RAHFH builds one-story three or four bedroom homes that average 1150 – 1250 sq ft; however, depending on the size and needs of the family, we are building two story homes as well.  The homes have an attached garage and one to two bathrooms. The future homebuyers select the siding, shingles, shutters, countertops and carpet colors. They also select the light fixtures. After purchase, the new homeowners personalize their homes as they see fit — this is the best part of homeownership. Making it your own!
